The technical setup



Professional simultaneous interpretation runs through soundproofed booths, built or rated to ISO standards, where interpreters listen to the original speaker through a dedicated audio feed and speak the translation in near real time. That translated audio is then distributed to the audience through wireless headsets in the room, or embedded as a separate audio channel for anyone watching a broadcast or live stream.


Booth interpreters versus remote interpretation


Traditionally this meant interpreters typically in pairs, physically present in booths at the back or side of the room. Remote simultaneous interpretation, where interpreters work from a separate location and receive the audio and video feed digitally, has become a genuine option for hybrid and multi market events, particularly where flying in interpreters for every language pairing is not practical.
